About Us.
It’s 2016, and Anthony Mayne placed an advertisement in the local Moruya paper, to see if anyone was interested in forming a theatre company. On a wet, cold night in Moruya, 18 people turned up to the Red Door Hall.
On that very first night, Linda Heald shared some of her history as a director, writer and musician. With Linda taking the role as Director and Anthony as Producer/President, a theatre company began to take shape. Fast forward six months and Babes in the Woods was performed as the debut production at the Moruya Primary School. And so, the Moruya Red Door Theatre was born… In those early years, we were more of a travelling troupe, performing in venues from Broulee to Central Tilba. However, since 2022 we have made our home in the Moruya RSL Hall for our bigger productions, and we also use the Moruya Red Door Hall for more intimate productions.
What about the name? We conduct our meetings, play readings, and early rehearsals in the little hall next to St John’s Church in Moruya, and you guessed it…it has beaut red doors! Hence, ‘Moruya Red Door Theatre Company’.
Our aim is to provide high quality theatre productions for our community’s entertainment, and to encourage and assist our members to excel and grow in their theatrical skills.
